The Telfer School of Management of the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track position in Health Care Management and Leadership at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, including a Professorship in Health Care Management and Leadership from The Ottawa Hospital (TOH), to commence on July 1, 2023, or at another negotiated date. The initial appointment of the Professorship will be a renewable 5-year term.
This position is unique in that the duties require a mix of research, teaching, program development and leadership, and the ability to act as a bridge between the Telfer School of Management and important organizational stakeholders within the health care industry. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise of the unique challenges facing today’s health care leaders. They will have a passion for addressing these challenges by engaging in impactful research and enthusiastic teaching. Finally, they will have a strategic vision for developing evidence-based graduate and executive programs aimed at equipping health care leaders with the skills and competencies they need to take action and improve health care for all.
Title of Position: Professor in Health Care Management and Leadership at the rank of Associate or Full, including a Professorship in Health Care Management and Leadership from The Ottawa Hospital (TOH). The rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Terms: Tenure-track position including a renewable five-year Professorship appointment.
Key Duties: Duties of a faculty member will include in varying proportions: a) teaching activities; b) scholarly activities; c) academic service activities; and where relevant d) supervision of graduate students.
- Help design, implement, and teach innovative curriculum in the graduate and executive health care programs at the Telfer School with the intention of eventually taking on a formal leadership role with these programs.
- Build strategic partnerships with local, national, and international health care organizations aimed at enhancing research and teaching in health care at the Telfer School.
- Act as a liaison between the Telfer School and The Ottawa Hospital to develop and implement future-focused, customizable, and strategically competitive executive programs in Health Care Leadership.
- Engage in “Research with Impact” that aspires to solve pressing challenges in health care.
- Participate in relevant service activities in line with the norms at the Telfer School according to rank.
Requirements:
• Education: Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in Management/Business Administration, Health Care Policy, Public Health, or related discipline is required.
• Language: English and/or French. At the time of tenure, a minimum passive knowledge of the other official language is required. The ability to speak and teach in both official languages is an asset, but not a requirement.
Work experience:
- An academic track-record consistent with the appointment of rank to Associate or Full Professor at the Telfer School of Management.
- Experience in developing collaborative relationships and ongoing partnerships with leaders and other important stakeholders in health care.
- A successful track record of teaching innovative courses on topics related to health care management. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in developing new curriculum and leading academic programs, as well as those who have been involved in the delivery of executive education in health care.
- A strategic vision for the future of health care management education.
- A research portfolio that demonstrates expertise in health care management, health care leadership, or in related areas. Preference will be given to applicants who meet the other requirements and who also demonstrate the ability to publish in the highest quality academic journals and secure external research funding.
