The University of Ottawa invites applications for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Green Chemistry. The selected candidate will hold a tenure-track faculty position in the Faculty of Science. Candidates are expected to establish a strong, externally funded, and collaborative research program in the broadly defined area of materials chemistry and/or green materials, that complements the existing expertise of the Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences. The chairholder will establish productive collaborations with other chemists looking for innovative new approaches to traditionally challenging or environmentally unfriendly reactions and chemical transformations. The successful candidate will have access to the world-class core facilities in NMR, mass spectrometry, and X-ray crystallography in the Faculty of Science, materials characterization and biocatalysis facilities that are part of the Centre for Catalysis Research and Innovation, and a wide range of microscopy and analytical infrastructure that is part of the Centre for Advanced Materials Research.

Tier 1 Chairs, tenable for seven years and renewable once, are for outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields. For each Tier 1 Chair, the institution receives $200,000 annually for seven years.
Nominees for Tier 1 Chair positions must be full professors or associate professors who are expected to be promoted to the full professor level within one or two years of the nomination. Alternatively, if they come from outside the academic sector, nominees must possess the necessary qualifications to be appointed at these levels. The University recognizes the legitimate impact that leaves (e.g., parental leave, leave due to illness) can have on a candidate’s record of research achievement and that these leaves will be taken into careful consideration during the assessment process. New CRC nominees are also eligible for infrastructure support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to help acquire state-of-the-art equipment essential to their work.
Required qualifications: PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline. Demonstrated outstanding independent research achievements in materials chemistry and/or green materials. Demonstrated a strong commitment to teaching and graduate training, a strong record of external research funding and a strong track record, and commitment to interdisciplinary collaborations. Demonstrated track record of incorporating and improving EDI in research and related highly qualified personnel training. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills in either English or French. A passive knowledge of the other official language is a requirement for tenure. English-French bilingualism is an asset.
Rank and salary: Regular tenure-track academic appointment at the rank of Full Professor in the Faculty of Science.
