The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge research in the Faculty’s Master’s and Ph.D. programs.

Preferential hiring:

The hiring for this position will be done in accordance with the University’s initiatives to combat systemic racial discrimination as announced by the University President in January 2021, which aim among other things, to remedy the under-representation of racialized peoples and Indigenous peoples within the ranks of its faculty members. A such, this hiring will give preference to candidates from EDI target groups in order to strengthen the diversity of the School of Political Studies. This hiring will be done in accordance with the principles of the University of Ottawa’s equity, diversity, and inclusion action plan, which aims to address the under-representation of people from four designated groups– women, people with disabilities, Indigenous people, racialized people (visible minorities). Title of the position: One (1) tenure-track Assistant or if applicable, Associate Professor position in public management.

Candidates will need to demonstrate an expertise, commitment to a research program and a record of refereed publications in the management of equity, diversity and inclusion issues in and by public administrations (in any region of the world). The following areas of specialization will be an asset: reception of migrant populations and immigration policies; human resources from migration; government's relationship with Indigenous communities.

Duties:

  • Research activities and refereed publications
  • Teaching courses in public administration at the undergaduate and graduate levels
  • Supervision of graduate students
  • Commitment to participating in the educational and administrative activities of the unit and the Faculty
  • Performing any other activity provided for in the collective agreement

Required skills:

  • PhD in public management, public policy or a related field
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach introductory courses in public management upon hiring
  • Demonstrated capacity to teach in English upon hiring
  • Quality of the teaching dossier
  • Quality of the record of publications and the research program

Bilingualism:

The University of Ottawa is proud of its more than 160-year tradition of bilingualism. All faculty members in the Faculty of Social Sciences must demonstrate active bilingualism before being granted tenure. The working language at the School of Political Studies is French.

Through its Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, the University provides training to staff members and to their spouses in their second official language.

Terms: Tenure-track position

Wage: Salary scale for an Assistant Professor starts at $89,622 (as of May 1, 2023).

Starting Date: July 1, 2023
