The Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track position in Accounting at the rank of Assistant commencing July 1, 2022.
We are seeking a scholar with strong research and teaching potential in the field of accounting, specifically auditing, data analytics, data governance and decision making, preferably with a CPA designation or equivalent. We anticipate that this new hire will incorporate data analytics, governance and decision making in the undergraduate and graduate programs in accounting. Further, the faculty member will develop a solid research program around digital transformations in the accounting and auditing profession to address research issues such as 1) blockchain technology and its impact on the auditing and assurance profession; 2) accounting and audit considerations for cryptocurrency assets and transactions; 3) big data and its impact on the accounting profession; and 4) disclosure and auditing considerations related to cybersecurity risks.
Our faculty publish regularly in prestigious journals including Accounting, Auditing & Accountability Journal, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Contemporary Accounting Research, European Accounting Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Finance and Accounting, Abacus, Accounting and Business Research, Accounting History Review, Critical Perspectives on Accounting, and British Accounting Review.
Title of the position: Accounting scholar at the rank of Assistant professor.
Terms: Tenure-track position.
- Teaching activities: The candidate should be interested in and able to teach in data analytics in accounting and in auditing at the undergraduate, graduate (Ph.D., M.Sc. and graduate professional diploma in accountancy) and undergraduate programs.
- Academic service activities as agreed with the Dean.
Salary and Benefits Package:
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience and typically starts at $130,000 - $150,000 per year depending on rank in the field of accounting. The University of Ottawa provides a complete and generous compensation package which includes long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, a University of Ottawa defined benefits pension plan, optional life insurance and funds for reimbursement of eligible moving expenses. The School also offers a start-up period with a reduced teaching load and start-up funding for research.
- Education: Ph.D. (or ABD) in Accounting, professional accounting designation (CPA or internationally recognised equivalent) and an interest in teaching data analytics in accounting and/or auditing within graduate (Ph.D., M.Sc. and graduate professional diploma in accountancy) and undergraduate programs.
- Language: English and/or French. The ability to teach in both official languages is an asset.
- Work experience:
- Commensurate with rank and experience, a high-potential program of research as demonstrated by articles published in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong teaching competency at the undergraduate, professional and Masters and/or Ph.D. levels as demonstrated by past teaching evaluations and a presentation given to faculty members and students if invited for an interview; and
- Ability to define, lead, manage and attract funds for internationally recognized research.
