The Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in International Business as an open rank commencing on July 1st, 2022 or earlier.
International business requires innovative solutions to meet global social and environmental challenges. Waiting for creative solutions to emerge is no longer possible and proactive stimulation is required. Modern firms need to meet increasing numbers of regulations but also demands from international stakeholders to minimize their negative impacts while maximizing their positive contributions to their social and natural environments. One potential direction for this position would be to identify and analyze how and where new ideas are developed, shared and spread, looking at the uneven distribution of creative and innovative solutions internationally. Geographically, a focus on emerging markets, while not required, could be of particular interest.
The university has identified “creating a sustainable environment” as one of its strategic areas of research in its Transformation 2030 plan. Increasing the agility and impact of both teaching and research and connections to the local and international community are central to achieving this transformation. The Telfer School of Management has several areas of strategic impact, including “Globalization, Governance and Sustainability” and “Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Strategic Management”. It is expected that this position will contribute to the pursuit of at least some of these goals.
Title of position: Professor in International Business at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor. The rank is commensurate with experience.
Terms: Tenure-track position.
- Teaching activities: Duties of a faculty member will include in varying proportions: a) teaching activities such as teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including a specialization in international business; b) scholarly activities; c) academic service activities; and d) supervision of graduate students.
There would also be opportunities to engage with our newly established Ph.D. program, including an emerging Strategy and Organization track.
- Research activities: Applications are invited from candidates with the ability to provide quality teaching while maintaining an active research agenda.
- Academic service activities as agreed with the Dean.
- Education: Ph.D. in a related management discipline.
- Language: English and/or French. At the time of tenure, a minimum passive knowledge of the other official language is required. The ability to speak and teach in both official languages is an asset.
- Work experience: A high-potential research program as demonstrated by articles published in high quality and high impact peer-reviewed journals in the area of International Business. Applicants are expected to demonstrate a track record of success in attracting competitive research funding and active engagement in the academic community.

Salary and Benefits Package:
Salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience where Assistant Professor salaries typically range between $94,000 and $130,000 per year, Associate Professors salaries range between $140,000 and $166,000, and Full Professors salaries range between $165,000 and $200,000 per year. The University of Ottawa provides a complete and generous compensation package which includes long-term disability, basic group life insurance, supplementary health insurance, a University of Ottawa defined benefits pension plan, optional life insurance and funds for reimbursement of eligible moving expenses. The School also offers a start-up period with a reduced teaching load and start-up funding for research.
