Hiring salary range

Position Purpose

Manage and direct the Financial Accounting department of the University.
Directs and controls accounting operations for all University funds, namely operations relating to accounting for revenues and expenditures, all student accounts and payments to vendors, in a highly decentralized environment.
Proposes and implements financial and accounting strategies for complex financial transactions.
Analyse, propose and implement new accounting standards applicable to the university.
Manages and controls capital fund budgets.
Develops strategies that integrate several transactional perspectives, including internal controls, procedures and the overall accuracy of financial statements.
Plans, organizes and directs the preparation and verification of the University’s financial statements, the financial statements of the two pension plans, as well as those of two numbered companies, in accordance with current accounting standards, and prepares various financial reports for different funding agencies in accordance with the instructions specific to each.
Develop and maintain timely and accurate financial statements and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) for NPOs
Develop and ensure compliance with financial management and control policies, directives, guidelines, and systems.
Acts as one of the University’s five signing officers authorized to sign official bank statements and other financial documents.

Essential Qualifications

University degree in accounting or finance and CPA designation
At least ten years’ experience in the education sector or with a large corporation, including at least six years in a financial management position
In-depth knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
In-depth knowledge of, and experience in, financial management
In-depth knowledge of both federal and provincial commodity tax regulations
Experience in managing human resources
Experience in drafting, interpreting and applying policies and procedures
Experience in managing customer service and complaints, and in designing and interpreting customer satisfaction indicators
Ability to develop new projects, to conduct short-, medium- and long-term planning, and take appropriate action to meet targets
Excellent ability to exercise professional judgment when explaining, interpreting and applying policies and procedures and when evaluating business risks
Skilled in interpersonal relations, communications, leadership and negotiation
Excellent ability to analyze, synthesize and solve complex problems
Organizational, time management and multitasking skills in order to meet tight deadlines
Experience in using complex financial systems, along with software such as spreadsheets, word processors, databases, email and the Internet
Bilingualism – French and English (spoken and written)
