Position Purpose

The incumbent is a marketing officer tasked with promoting the University of Ottawa across the globe, with the goal of allowing the University to reach its recruitment objectives in regards to the number and the characteristics of its new students. He or she contributes to the development of the University’s recruitment plan and maintains close ties with all internal and external contributors. He or she develops and organizes events in accordance with the needs of his or her target market. Finally, he or she also ensures that the literature that is handed out to students is adequate and responds to their needs.

Essential Qualifications

Postsecondary diploma in the field of marketing, communications, public relations, international development or an equivalent combination of postsecondary studies and work experience.

Minimum of three full years of consistent experience in a position directly related to the purposes of this job, including experience as a leader of international missions.

Experience in developing presentations and delivering them to various audiences in Canada’s two official languages, as well as another language used in Francophone and Francophile countries.

Minimum of three full years of consistent experience in project management and the capacity to conceptualize, organize and coordinate public events, as well as the capacity to work on multiple events at a time under strict deadlines.
Proven experience in maintaining diplomatic relationships.

Political savvy and regard for decorum.

Knowledge of international postsecondary education systems and the job markets of the target clientele.

Knowledge of the University of Ottawa, its programs, services and admission requirements.

Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and to demonstrate critical reasoning and efficient time management.

Ability to effectively mobilize people towards common goals to act as a mission chief.

Mastery of the French language and excellent knowledge of the English language (oral and written communication)

Excellent knowledge of a third language used in Francophone and Francophile countries.

The position sometimes requires the incumbent to work long hours and to be flexible during evenings and weekends.

The position requires the incumbent to be able to travel outside of the country for long periods of time that can last up to six consecutive weeks at a time.

Valid driver’s license.
